Clue Alchemy is a free online history quiz where correct answers turn into clues, and clues turn into a solved historical case. Play right in your browser — no download required. Three steps stand between a trivia question and the final reveal.
Step 1 — Answer Trivia Questions, Earn Stamps
Every historical case opens with a quiz: 10 questions, a streak, a timer. The longer your streak of correct answers, the more stamps you earn at the end of the round. Stamps are your in-game currency for the next step.
Step 2 — Open Envelopes and Merge Clue Cards
Spend stamps on envelopes — each one reveals two clue cards. Collect the base postcards for your historical case and merge them together: two fragments combine into one, more revealing clue.
Step 3 — Uncover the Historical Mystery
Keep merging: base clues become intermediate cards, and intermediate cards combine into one final card. That final card is the answer — a real historical event you’ve reconstructed piece by piece through trivia, deduction, and card merging. It’s filed in your Journal, the case is closed, and the next historical mystery is waiting.
